Tefilla Introductions and inspirations to Tefilla. This section is dedicated L'ilui Nishmas a great friend: Refael Levi ben Chaya Tova Yichye.

The Ba'al Shem Tov, The Alter Rebbe, and the two sides of Prayer (simple vs complex)
A "Zoom" class for Australia about Prayer and The upcoming Yom Tov of Chai Elul.
The two sides of prayer: simple (אני מתפלל לדעת זה התינוק; אדרבה המאור הוא בהתגלות) and complex (יודעים לכוין בשם) are addressed and reconciles these two contradictory ideas.

Tefilla. The basic idea of Prayer is a Mitzvah (one of the 613.) The idea of Davening quietly was introduced by Chana. The text of Prayer begins with the אנשי כנסת הגדולה (the members of the great assembly) who did it because language was becoming adulterated and people no longer spoke clearly and precisely. What did the אנשי כנסת הגדולה actually write? The basics: Pesukei DiZImra (Brachos) the blessings of Shma, the Amida, Bentching And... Brachos כל מטבע שטבעו חכמים בבברכות means the אנשי כנסת הגדולה.

1) Sacrifice, 2) Bring closer, 3) Already close.

A thought that can be debated (I don't really have a source for this). Disparate parts of the Liturgy, (Amida, Shma and its blessings, Pesukei Dizimra and its blessings etc.) to create the ladder of Tefilla.

Why Davening describes everything in such idealized terms.

Thought on Tefilla as 19 Kislev approaches, Rachamana Liba baii.

Class One (5777/ 2017) Who was he? What did he do? and Why is his work so important? A story of a פנימי- הרבי רש"ב and the אבודרהם.

Class Two (5780/ 2019) What is special about this work

This class overviews different levels and philosophies of prayer culminating with Chassidus.

A series from the Summer of 5770/2010.

Class One. Introduction: What is Tefilla?

Class Two. The ladder of Tefilla. Growth and Success. How Kabalah develops the ladder of each (morning) prayer.

Class Three. Brochos. These Rabbinic forms said all the time for many different reasons have a very basic and important design and function.

Class Four. (Krias) Shma vs. Shmone' Esre (The Amida). These two critical prayers stand at the center of all prayers and they combine to make prayer whole. This class explores the significance of each and their relationships to one another.

Class Five. Yetzias Mitzrayim. Prayer, like all of Judaism, redeems. After Shma, leading into the Shmone' Esrei, is the discussion of exodus. This isn't historic, it is current.

ViHaya Im Shamoa... Uleovdo.. (5768). Avoda Shebilev (The labor or work of the heart) is the Torah denotation for Prayer Why?

Class One.

Class two.

Class Three.

A sanctuary at home. A spot in one's home that is their personal sanctuary.

Class One: Da'as. Daas. The key to davening is actually- Davening, that means talking to G-d.

Class two: "Which Jew doesn't need to Daven?". Often our disinterest in Davening is a lack of appreciation, understanding, and know-how.

Post Seminary talk on prayer (5776/ 2016). It is time we turn it around and instead of waiting for our sophisticated selves to find meaning in Davening, we should return to being simple, where the question of the meaning of Davening never crossed people's minds in the first place.
