Hayom Yom Tamuz classes

For a Bochur to know his place. They don't come to a place to assimilate, but to be themselves and change the place to their level. Rebbe's wedding where the Rebbe RaYaTz told this idea to the Bochurim. Letter about מדת ההשתוות.

The link between the Mitzvos between man and G-d and those between man and man is underscored in the recitation of הריני מקבל each day at the beginning of our prayer. Want attachedness with G-d? Be connected and don't be separated from fellow Yid. Why is discussed a little, it has to do with humility and openness.

The Jewish sigh is spiritually very meaningful it doesn't really matter what arouses it. Humility and admitting dependency upon G-d is very emancipating spiritually.

Class One: Review of what the Hayom Yom (as a whole) is (due to long break).

Class Two: Rabbi Simpson, America, seeing the Rebbe. What one Tomim can do in a place void of other efforts. This is his entire purpose.

Class Three: In our generation being Mikarev someone else is the beginning of Chassidus!

Class One: Entire entry. The greatness of the Alter Rebbe's Chassidim. A Chossid wouldn't complain but the Alter Rebbe asked him how are his affairs, so he told that he is doing very poorly financially and the Rebbe reprimanded him: You do ( and worry about) your job and allow G-d to do (and worry about) his affairs: your material well-being.

Class Two: Continued. Make the world around you light. Tanya Ch 41 discusses two levels in Mesiras Nefesh: Lower Level: Giving oneself to Him and being lost (even dying for) in Him. Higher level: To do for Him what HE needs (כבכיול) to bring Him down ליחדא קוב"ה ושכנתי' בתחתונים. This 2nd level we are not holding on by ourselves so we say בשם כל ישראל we have it as part of the collective Jew כנסת ישראל. The Rebbe has made this (putting another Yid ahead of you ברוחניות) into the basics ממש.

Mitzvos need שמירה which comes from מקיף; often the שמירה is the מצוה itself. This is why you should give Tzedaka along with every Mitzvah it is the שמירה. However even higher than צדקה is תורה (the מקיף and the פנימי are one -?-).

חסידות וסדר (Class One). Inside. Chassidus is the עיגול מבלי אשר ימצא ראש וסוף. Nevertheless the רביים and the חינוך the רביים gave for their חסידים involved absolute סדר. Two opposites. This class we read the text and explained a little bit of... A) the Seder by the רביים. B) The השפעה hierarchy by the Alter Rebbe.

חסידות וסדר (Class Two). This class discusses the Alter Rebbe's סדר in his letters, מאמרים and ניגונים. A) Letters for soliciting funds for צדקה were given an orderly Torah thought (ועצ"ע). B) His מאמרים; he was altogether in the sky and down here they were גוטע דרושים מסודרדיקע דרושים. C) His ניגונים; the entire idea of נגינה (order, beauty, form) and עבודה (truth, inner struggle etc.) seem contradictory. Only the Alter Rebbe was able to bring the two together.

חסידות וסדר Class Three חסידות is נעוץ תחילתן בסופן וסופן בתחילתן and עיגולים מבלי אשר ימצא ראש וסוף. Three explanations: 1) שמן has three characteristics: A. cannot be eaten alone and is found in everything, B. שמן מפעפע בכולו C. שמן צף על כל משקין. Chassidus is as available and as illusive as שמן and is based on these characteristics. 2) אין סוף למעלה עד אין קץ ולמטה עד אין תכלית this is not Hashem as he doesn't have divisions, but His Light, and it also is everywhere and nowhere (as is Chassidus). 3) the example of אור light; it changes everything and nothing at all.

חסידות וסדר Class Four. סדר Though what Chassidus is, is infinite; but we are finite. For us order is very necessary. Without order our ability to benefit from Chassidus which is עיגולים בלי ראש וסוף is curtailed.

חסידות וסדר Class Five. Examples of Seder. ישר יחזו פנימו חטוף ואכול וחטוף ואשתי הוא גם כן "סוג" של סדר.

Introduction about חודש אייר. With all the great things Avrohom Avinu did he is most beloved because of the way he raised his children and set up for the next generation.

Supporting Torah's greatest reward is our own Nachas.

מהוי' מצעדי גבר כוננו Class One. מהוי' מצעדי גבר כוננו

Class Two.

The Tanya was printed in stages. The אגרת התשובה appeared in the very second edition of the Tanya but in the earlier draft (מהדורא קמא). The final draft of this letter wouldn't appear until almost ten years later.

Class One: The Birthday of the Frieridke Rebbe. Story of his birth and his early years, until he becomes his father's right hand man.

Class Two: The day he was officially told he's free, but to be actually freed he needed to wait until the next day because it was the day off. (Thanks to Stalin we have another day of Yom Tov). Stories of the year of the arrest, Rosh Hashana (איי סערטצע למנצח), Simchas Torah (Tehillim), Purim Kattan, Purim (If you see this body burning...) and more.

Class Three: Farbrengen and the idea of a farbrengen.

Class One: This class involves the reason 12-13 Tamuz is two days (again) and some stories about that time.

Class Two: Two Points: 1) The Rebbe considers the arrest, imprisonment, and exile as one long event (2 perspectives: Chassidim's and the Rebbe's own) 2) Chassidic "culture" (explained somewhat) learning and taking lessons to heart.

Class One: This Hayom Yom is based on a (rather famous) exchange between the Previous Rebbe and Our Rebbe about the question of מתן תורה in America. In this letter the Previous Rebbe separates two ideas: 1) In מקיף, the Torah was given to the entire globe as one, 2) In פנימי what is closer to Sinai and Eretz Yisroel is more and what is farther is less. Accordingly "on the other side of the world" the Torah was not given on this level. As part of that discussion, there is this teaching of the Alter Rebbe about the question of gravity. He argues that wherever you stand stand on earth, the sky is to you "up" not because of (the physical reason of) gravity (only) but [also and primarily] because the earth and the sky above it come from עיגולים which has no top and bottom. At the end of the class we briefly discuss that the earth is like a fetus where all detail is unseen and "curled up".

Class Two: This is part two of the Hayom Yom about gravity. We discussed the ideas of עיגולים and יושר. We made the point that עיגולים is both קטנות and אין סוף. The earth is an עיגול and (we suggested) that it's יושר, that there are people who walk upright on earth (Hayom Yom 13 Shvat.) That adds the "גדלות" to the world. (3)

Class One: Is it possible for someone to join Gashmiyus and Ruchniyus to such an extent that their spiritual lives should affect their physical bodies? Reb Nochum Tchernubiler was fat from saying אמן יהא שמי' רבה. We compared it to one who is תורתו אומנתו שמלאכתו נעשית (בגשמיות כפשוטו) ע"י אחרים. )

Class Two: Stories of Reb Nochum Tchernubiler (that have some connection to Chabad).

The Baal Shem Tov was a נסתר. He was forced to reveal himself. He was a באהעלפער for a מלמד and loved the children His brother in law ר' גרשון קיטיווער.

17 Tamuz Class One: This class explains the connection between the date (17 Tamuz) and the entry about the two sets of Luchos. We also read the entire entry and explained all of it basically. The level of Chakika which is above the written and the oral.

Class Two: This class discussed the first difference between the two sets of Luchos: The stone came from where? The first set was never a part of the world, the second set came from the world and needed to be elevated. Explanation: מה נורא המקום הזה אין זה כי אם בית אלוקים and the Targum explains לית דין אתר הדיוט the land of the Shuls (קבועים) are different from the land around them in the way were created. This is so many times in the Luchos, specifically the first set.

Class Three: The first Luchos were מכתב they were not written onto the Luchos, the Luchos were simply made with them on them. The second Luchos were כתב written onto the stone. In both cases it is carved. The idea of אותיות החקיקה and אותיות הכתיבה and אותיות על פה and what they mean in terms of the oneness between G-dliness and worldliness. 1) Fire and fuel are One ממש and 2) and fire and fuel are separate but in harmony, 3) and the fire and fuel are struggling against each other. The resultant difference was, that in the first Luchos: 1) there could be no forgetfulness, the nature of memory and forgetfulness is discussed here. 2) There could be no submission to other nations.

Class Four: The first Luchos is Tzadik and the second is Ba'al Teshuva. Differences between Tzadik and Ba'al Teshuva, like the Beis Hamikdash, don't allow for a בעל מום because it is the world of balance and Tzadik, and one who has a blemish and compensates (in the Rebbe's words: they are מצויינים they make up for what they lack with extreme in some areas. This is the Ba'al Teshuva that is outside "normal".

Class Five: With the first Luchos, Moshe received 1,000 lights, which he lost after the Chet HaEgel, and now (with the second Luchos) he has them only on Shabbos. [Suggested explanation:] But with the second Luchos he received the idea of קרני עור פניו his face radiated. The thousand lights, are not able to become פנימיות with and in Torah, but the radiance on his face can integrate with his Torah.

Class Six: Second Luchos included Halachos, Midrash, Agados etc. The question of חוטא נשכר (the sinner profits?!) is addressed here. The answer is we lost much of the Ruach HaKodesh that had been but we gained the need for and the benefit that comes from groping and tapping in the darkness, and thus the increase in תורה שבעל פה.

Hayom Yom 18 Tamuz Class 1 This class introduces (but doesn't yet explain) this Hayom Yom. It includes a thought on ר' משה ווילענקער and a discussion on the greatness of the Alter Rebbe's Chassidim, both in mind and heart. Even before meeting him they came to him for a connection to Hashem.

Hayom Yom 18 Tamuz, Class 2. This class begins with a discussion on the idea of מיצר הגרון (to go from mind to heart there's an interruption) and the need for a בכן (the point that remains and goes to the heart. We also explained what מוחין דגדלות (or פנימית המוחין והמדות) are; the reaching of the אלוקי (G-dly) which is above the שכלי (the divine) [We spoke about ר' חיים יונה לוצקי ע"ה] And we finished with מוחין רחבין that are compared to מרחב העצמו בעצם הנפש.

Hayom Yom 19 Tamuz Tefillas Haderech, is said every day that one is away from home. We discussed the idea of יראת שמים that is connected to attend to such details. On the day the trip starts, it is said with a Bracha and after that it is said without a Bracha, but NEAR a Bracha. It is a Chidush of the Alter Rebbe in his Siddur.

20 Tamuz Class One. Written to Rabbi Chodokov. A few stories of how he became involved with the Rabbeiim. He was an Oved Pnimi. This letter was written to him, to help him serve Hashem. This class is only an overview. We will explore all these ideas in detail in the coming classes. The three types of Hisbonenus: A) Intellectual, to hear the שכלי. B) Before Davening, the חיות of the idea. C) During Davening, the אלוקי that is felt.

Class Two. The need for Hisbonenus, is in all areas of knowledge, even in Nigla, but much more so in Chassidus because it is meta-physics, that you cannot touch, so you need real work and thought (איבערטראכטן) for the idea to be understood correctly (to get past the משל to the נמשל). The three stages are: 1) Point of the idea, 2) the life of the idea 3) The G-dliness of the idea,

Hayom Yom 21 Tamuz Class One: An introduction (my grandfather's Yahrtzait, הרב שאול יחזקאל בן מנחם מענדל ע"ה). Stories with the Rabbeiim. This Hayom Yom, compares a Jew to the Bais HaMikdash, just as the holiness stays in a destroyed house, so is there constant holiness in a sleeping Jew.

Class Two: Question of Galus vs. Shina as opposed to Asleep vs awake. The "Farbrengen" of this Hayom Yom, the Pintteler Yid. 1) We see it in Mesiras Nefesh 2) (but) Nowadays we see it (more) in Teshuva. Stories for each are provided. [Incidental thought: Is the twelve step program against Torah?]

Hayom Yom 22 Tamuz (Class One): The three ideas: 1) Chassidic thought, 2) Chassidic good custom 3) Chassidic song and their respective impacts.

(Class 2): This Class has an introduction about the upcoming 19 Kislev, the Farbrengen and the traditions. The connection between this introduction and our Hayom Yom is the idea of Avoda, the basis for the "light" of Chassidus is the work. There's the Work (Avoda) and the light (the Ma'amar Chassidus) that follows the work. This entry speaks to neither of these. It speaks to what inspires both the work and the Light, or what comes after the work and the light.

Hayom Yom 23 Tamuz.
The custom regarding what to read Shabbos Mincha, Monday, and Thursday mornings when Masei is separate from Mattos.
About customs and the Rebbe.

Hayom Yom 24 Tamuz, Class One.
Asking for a Bracha for matters of Avoda is laziness.
This idea is supported and challenged from stories and Sichos.
There is a place for Brachos, but (perhaps the idea is) not to ask for them.

Hayom Yom 25 Tamuz, Class One.
Asking for a Bracha for matters of AVoda is laziness.
This idea is supported and challenged from stories and Sichos.
There is a place for Brachos, but (perhaps the idea is) not to ask for them.

Hayom Yom 25 Tamuz, Class Two.
The first idea is revisited, for a Yid, due to the G-dly Neshama there is a natural pull towards G-dliness and an “understanding” of the reality of the super-natural.
And the second idea is given context, even in the “lowest” Jew this shows itself in the power not to be cut off from G-d at all costs.

Hayom Yom 25 Tamuz, Class Three.
The idea of the nature of the Yid, based on the inner (מהות) sense of Elokus discussed in the מאמר ואתה תצוה התשנ"ב is quite different and much more than "just" not allowing oneself to be cut off from Hashem.
This idea of גילוי אלקות נוגע לעצם מציאותו that affects him so that the lack of this revelation causes כתית למאור is possible because of the additional idea of ואתה תצוה.
ועדיין צריך עיון.
It brings down אלקות in a way of תמיד and not only מערב עד בקר.

Hayom Yom 26 Tamuz.
The difference between learning and Davening.
Learning: getting (G-dliness) as one can get.
Davening: surrendering to Him as He is beyond us.
The example of Geula Shlaima vs Yetzias Mitzrayim.

Hayom Yom 27 Tamuz, Class One.
The Ilui who collected a great knowledge of Chassidus in Liozno, (like the Yoshvim later on) and then asked the Alter Rebbe what he must improve, and the Rebbe told him to deal with his Yeshus.
Yechidus was really about Inyonim Pnimiyiim.

Hayom Yom 27 Tamuz, Class Two.
The idea of being joyous about being criticized because we grow from it.
The way one learns a Halacha of Kashering in Gan Eden.
This great Chossid is made aware of his "Yeshus", the idea of "Murgash" is introduced and proposed.
This is corrected through fire, exceeding the limit so that the fire is really Bittul.

Hayom Yom 28 Tamuz
The Rabbeiim had Ma'amarim that they said "just" to purify the "atmosphere".
The Rebbe RaYaTz's letter about what is achieved by saying Chassidus even if the people don't understand.
