Hayom Yom 18 Tamuz Class 1 This class introduces (but doesn't yet explain this Hayom Yom It includes a thought on ר' משה ווילענקער and a discussion on the greatness of the Alter Rebbe's Chassidim, both in mind and heart even before meeting him They came to him for a connection to Hashem.

The link between the Mitzvos between man and G-d and those between man and man are underscored in the recitation of הריני מקבל each day at the beginning of our prayer. Want attachedness with G-d, be connected and don'r be separated from fellow Yid. Why is discussed a little, it has to do with humility and openness.

Class One: Review of what the Hayom Yom (as a whole) is (due to long break). Class Two: Rabbi Simpson, America, seeing the Rebbe. What one Tomim can do in a place void of other efforts. This is his entire purpose. Class Three: In our generation being Mikarev someone else is the beginning of Chassidus!

Class One: Entire entree. The greatness of the Alter Rebbe's Chssidim. Chosssid wouldn't complain but the Alter Rebbe asked him how are his affairs so he told that he is doing very poorly financially and the Rebbe reprimanded him: You do ( and worry about) your job and allow G-d to do (and worry about) his affairs: your material well-being. Class Two: Continued. Make the world around you light. Tanya Ch 41 discusses two levels in Mesiras Nefesh: Lower Level: Giving oneself to Him and being lost (even dying for) in Him. Higher level: To do for Him what HE needs (כבכיול) to bring Him down ליחדא קוב"ה ושכנתי' בתחתונים. This 2nd level we are not holding on by ourselves so we say בשם כל ישראל we have it as part of the collective Jew כנסת ישראל. The Rebbe has made this (putting another Yid ahead of you ברוחניות) into the basics ממש.

Mitzvos need שמירה which comes from מקיף; often the שמירה is the מצוה itself. This is why you should give Tzedaka along with every Mitzvah it is the שמירה. However even higher than צדקה is תורה (the מקיף and the פנימי are one -?-).

חסידות וסדר (Class One). Inside. Chassidus is the עיגול מבלי אשר ימצא ראש וסוף. Never the less the רביים and the חינוך the רביים gave for their חסידים involved absolute סדר. Two opposites. This class we read the text and expalined a little bit of... 1) the Seder by the רביים. 2) The השפעה hierarchy bu the Alter Rebbe. חסידות וסדר (Class Two). This class diuscusse the Alter Rebbe's סדר in his letters, מאמרים and ניגונים. 1) Letters for soliciting funds for צדקה were given an orderly Torah thought (ועצ"ע). 2) His מאמרים; he was altogether in the sky and down here they were גוטע דרושים מסודרדיקע דרושים. 3) His ניגונים; the entire idea of נגינה (order beauty form) and עבודה (truth, inner struggle etc.) seem contradictory. Only the Alter Rebbe was able to bring the two together. חסידות וסדר Class Three חסידות is נעוץ תחילתן בסופן וסופן בתחילתן and עיגולים מבלי אשר ימצא ראש וסוף. Three explanations: 1) שמן has three characteristics: A. cannot be eaten alone and is found in everything, B. שמן מפעפע בכולו C. שמן צף על כל משקין; Chassidus is as available and as illusive as שמן is based on these characteristics. 2) אין סוף למעלה עד אין קץ ולמטה עד אין תכלית this is not Hashem as he doesn't have divisions, but His Light, and it also is everywhere and nowhere (as is Chassidus). 3) the example of אור light; it changes everything and nothing at all. חסידות וסדר Class Four. סדר Though what Chassidus is is infinite; but we are finite. For us order is very necessary. Without order our ability to benefit from Chassidus which is עיגולים בלי ראש וסוף is curtailed. חסידות וסדר Class Five. Examples of Seder. ישר יחזו פנימו חטוף ואכול וחטוף ואשתי הוא גם כן "סוג" של סדר.

The Tanya was printed in stages. The אגרת התשובה appeared in the very second addition of the Tanya but in the earlier draft (מהדורא קמא) the final draft of this letter wouldn't appear until almost ten years later.

Class One: The Birthday of the Frieridke Rebbe's birthday. Story of his birth and his early years, until he becomes his father's right hand man. Class Two: The day he was officially told he's free, but to be actually freed he needed to wait until the next day because it was the day off (thanks to Stalin we have another day of Yom Tov). Stroies of the year ofg the arrest, Rosh Hashana (איי סערטצע למנצח), Simchas Torah (Tehillim), Purim Kattan, Purim (If you see this body burning...) and more. Class Three: Farbrengen and the idea of a farbrengen.

Class One: This class involves the reason 12-13 Tamuz is two days (again) and some stories about that time. Class Two: Two Points: 1) The Rebbe considers the arrest imprisonment and exile as one long event (2 perspectives: Chassidim's and the Rebbe's own) 2) Chassidic "culture" (explained somewhat) learning and taking lessons to heart.

Class One: This Hayom Yom is based a (rather famous) exchange between the Previous Rebbe and Our Rebbe about the question of מתן תורה in America. In this letter the Previous Rebbe separates two ideas: 1) In מקיף the Torah was given to the entire globe as one, 2) In פנימי what is closer to Sinai and Eretz Yisroel is more and what is farther is less. Accordingly "on the other side of the world" the Torah was not given on this level. As part of that discussion there is is this teaching of the Alter Rebbe about the question of gravity. He argues that wherever on earth you stand is to you "up" nit because of (the physical reason of) gravity (only) but [also and primarily] because the earth and the sky above it come from עיגולים which has no top and bottom. At the end of the class we briefly discuss that the earth is like a fetus where all detail is unseen and "curled up". Class Two: This is part two of the Hayom Yom about gravity. We discussed the ideas of עיגולים and יושר. We made the point that עיגולים is both קטנות and אין סוף. The earth is an עיגול and (we suggested) that it's יושר are people who walk upright on earth (Hayom Yom 13 Shvat) that adds the "גדלות" to the world. (3)

(1) It is possible for someone to join Gashmiyus and Ruchniyus to such an extent that their spiritual lives should affect their physical bodies? Reb Nochum Tchernubiler was fat from saying אמן יהא שמי' רבה We compared it to one who is תורתו אומנתו שמלאכתו נעשית (בגשמיות כפשוטו) ע"י אחרים. (2) Stories of Reb Nochum Tchernubiler (that have some connection to Chabad).

17 Tamuz Class One: This class explains the connection between the date (17 Tamuz) and the entry about the two sets of Luchos. We also read the entire entry and explained all of it basically. The level of Chakika which is above the written and the oral. Class Two: This class discussed the first difference between the two sets of Luchos: The stone came from where? The first set was never a part of the world, the second set came from the world and needed to be elevated. Explanation: מה נורא המקום הזה אין זה כי אם בית אלוקים and the Tragum explains לית דין אתר הדיוט the land of the Shuls (קבועים) are different from the area around them in the way were created. This is many times so in the Luchos, specifically the first set. Class Three: The first Luchos were מכתב they were not written onto the Luchos, the Luchos were simply made with them on them. The second Luchos were כתב written onto the stone. In both cases it is carved. The idea of אותיות החקיקה and אותיות הכתיבה and אותיות על פה and what they means int terms of the oneness between G-dliness and worldliness. 1) Fire and fuel are One ממש and 2) and fire and fuel are separate but in harmony, 3) and the fire and fuel at struggling against each other. The resultant difference was, that in the first Luchos: 1) there could be no forgetfulness, the nature of memory and forgetfulness is discussed here. 2) There could be no submission to other nations. Class Four: The first Luchos is Tzadik and the second is Ba'al Teshuva. Differences between Tzadik and Ba'al Teshuva, like the Beis Hamikdash doesn't allow for a בעל מום because it is the world of balance and Tzadik, and the compensator who has a blemish and compensates (in the Rebbe's words: the are מצויינים they make up for what they lack with extreme in some areas. This is the Ba'al Teshuva that is outside "normal". Class Five: The first Luchos Moshe received 1,000 lights, which he lost after the Egel, and now (with the second Luchos) he has them only Shabbos. [Suggested explanation:] But with the second Luchos he received the idea of קרני עור פניו his face radiated. The thousand lights, are not able to become פנימיות with and in Torah, but the radiance on his face can integrate with his Torah. Class Six: Second Luchos included Halachos Midrash Agados etc. The question of חוטא נשכר (the sinner profits?!) is addressed here. The answer is we lost much of the Ruach HaKodesh that had been but we gained the need for and the benefit that comes from groping and tapping in the darkness, thus thus the increase in תורה שבעל פה.
