Dear Friends,
This letter is not about my last fight or my boxing career. It is about something much more important. My Rabbi and friend Zalman Liberow was in a horrific car accident on Wednesday night of last week. He is currently in critical condition and, as of now, is not aware that his son Avrohom Dovid Liberow has tragically passed away as a result of the crash.
He was only 10 years old. This tragedy hit home for me. As many of you know Rabbi Zalman and his family have been instrumental in my spiritual growth since the age of 14. I met Rabbi Zalman as a young boy looking for Judaism and spirituality. Like a true teacher and mentor, Rabbi Zalman guided me and helped me whenever he could with whatever was available to him. After my mother passed away, I have spent many Friday night dinners at Rabbi Zalman's house. He and his family introduced me to Judaism, most importantly by example. Rabbi Zalman and his family dedicated their whole lives to Judaism and serving the Jewish people, expecting nothing in return. I witnessed it first hand over and over again. Rabbi Zalman is in the hospital, still in critical condition, but getting better every day, thank G-D. His wife Chanie and 10 children are at home sitting Shiva, mourning for Avrohom Dovid, whom I saw just last week. I remember when Avrohom Dovid was born and am still in shock and disbelief over what happened. The goal of this letter is to reach out to you, my friends and supporters, asking that you help Rabbi Zalman and his family financially. I hope that none of us will have to do this mitzvah ever again and all of us will be healthy. Rabbi Zalman has taught me that every occurrence should influence a positive change. I ask you to unite and help Rabbi Zalman's family. I also ask all of you to pray for Rabbi Zalman's speedy recovery and for the well-being of his family in this difficult time. Thank you and I hope and pray that we will share many good news. Dimitry Salita |
